Brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms, resulting in a more toned and youthful appearance. This procedure is particularly beneficial for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or those whose skin has lost elasticity due to aging.

This procedure is often covered by insurance.

Ideal Candidates for Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

Ideal candidates for brachioplasty are those who have excess, sagging skin on their upper arms due to significant weight loss, aging, or genetics. Patients should be in good overall health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about the procedure's outcomes. It is important to note that brachioplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or a healthy lifestyle.

The Steps of Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

Here’s what you can expect from Brachioplasty (Arm Lift). Each patient is unique, and we’ll discuss the particulars of your procedure during your consultation.

  1. Anesthesia
‍The patient is placed under general anesthesia to ensure comfort during the procedure.
  2. Incision
‍The surgeon makes an incision on the inside of the arm, typically extending from the underarm to just above the elbow. The length and pattern of the incision depend on the amount and location of the excess skin to be removed.
  3. Fat removal
‍In some cases, liposuction may be used in conjunction with brachioplasty to remove excess fat deposits and further enhance the arm's contours.
  4. Excess skin removal
‍The surgeon removes the excess, sagging skin, carefully reshaping the underlying supportive tissue to create a more toned appearance.
  5. Closing the incisions
‍The remaining skin is smoothed over the newly repositioned contours of the arm, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
  6. Recovery
‍After the procedure, the arms are wrapped in bandages or compression garments to minimize swelling and support the new contours. Patients may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Most patients can return to work and light activities within a week, but should avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects for six weeks.
