Augmentation mastopexy is a combination surgical procedure that addresses both breast volume and position concerns in a single operation. This procedure combines the volume enhancement of breast augmentation with the lifting and reshaping benefits of mastopexy, making it ideal for women who have experienced deflation and sagging due to pregnancy, nursing, weight loss, or aging. By combining these procedures, patients can achieve both the size and shape they desire while minimizing overall recovery time.

This procedure is often covered by insurance.

Ideal Candidates for Augmentation Mastopexy

Ideal candidates for augmentation mastopexy are women who desire both increased breast volume and lifting of sagging breasts. Candidates should be in good overall health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about the procedure's outcomes. This procedure is particularly beneficial for women who have experienced breast deflation and sagging due to pregnancy, nursing, significant weight loss, or aging. Patients should be finished with childbearing and breastfeeding, maintain a stable weight, and understand that this is a more complex procedure than either augmentation or mastopexy alone.

The Steps of Augmentation Mastopexy

Here’s what you can expect from Augmentation Mastopexy. Each patient is unique, and we’ll discuss the particulars of your procedure during your consultation.

  1. Anesthesia
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery.
  2. Incision
The surgeon makes incisions using the mastopexy pattern, which typically includes incisions around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, and sometimes horizontally along the breast crease. The specific incision pattern depends on the degree of lift required and your individual anatomy.
  3. Implant placement
A pocket is created either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the chest muscle (submuscular) to accommodate the implant. The choice of placement depends on factors such as your body type, implant type, and desired outcome.
  4. Breast tissue reshaping
The underlying breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve breast contour and firmness. Excess skin is removed to create the desired lift.
  5. Nipple and areola repositioning
The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more youthful position. If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter.
  6. Implant insertion
The selected implants, either silicone or saline, are inserted into the created pockets and positioned for optimal shape and symmetry.
  7. Closing the incisions
The remaining skin is tightened around the new breast shape, and the incisions are closed with layered sutures to support the newly shaped breasts.
  8. Recovery
You will be monitored in a recovery area until the anesthesia wears off, then return home to rest. A supportive surgical bra will be applied to support the breasts during healing. Your surgeon will provide detailed post-operative care instructions, including activity restrictions, pain management, and follow-up appointments to monitor your progress. The results will be immediately visible, with final results settling over the next few months as swelling subsides and incision lines fade.
